The silent majority are more united than divided

We are constantly bombarded with the extreme left and the extreme right painting the picture that Democrats are socialists/communists and Republicans are fascists/racists. If this were true we would have to assume that roughly half of the voting population is one or the other which the majority know better. We are targeted by the extremes sides using fear who seek to divide us with the intent of maintaining political power.

A Gallup poll speaks to the fact that the silent majority of Americans identify as independents. The numbers range from 39% to 46% of the voting population. https://news.gallup.com/poll/15370/party-affiliation.aspx. The main problem is that we do not have a party that represents main street america and the voters choose between what they believe is the lesser of the two evils. We are bombarded with the notion that the two party system is our only viable option.

The majority of Americans want border security, a fix to the immigration system, affordable & accessible healthcare and education, creating more quality jobs, protecting social security and term limits. We can debate how best to accomplish these goals but few people identifying as independents don’t view these as core issues.

The majority are not heard because they are working and trying to survive in today’s difficult economic reality. They are not out protesting, yelling over social media and creating news. The vast majority of Americans are not socialists, racists, communists, white supremacists, lazy and the list could go on. The previously mentioned terms are used by the political manipulators to divide and weaken our voice.

The intent of the Main Street USA party is to create a voice for the silent majority politically. Follow us add your thoughts and be part of the change

US Foreign Policy & Regime Change

Most people do not understand the historical influence of colonialism on our foreign policy in the US. The textbook definition:

colonialism

  1. the policy or practice of acquiring full or partial political control over another country, occupying it with settlers, and exploiting it economically.”the state apparatus that was dominant under colonialism

In today’s world we don’t need to have settlers to pull strings of power. Our international perception of  US intervention is much different than the media spin. Having traveled to many countries over the last 18 years my eyes were opened after listening to the different views from Latin America to Africa to the Middle East. Our country’s reputation abroad is that when we intervene we make a bad situation worse over the long haul. At times we seek to bring change with the idea that the enemy of my enemy is my friend who we will back so we can put friendly parties into power. Our foreign policy mess has contributed to the rise of Isis and like groups that take advantage of countries with weak central governments or none at all. Both Democrats and Republicans have followed the path leading to past foreign policy mistakes. Short list of examples; Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria and the list could go on.

” The US has spent $1.5 trillion on war since Sept 11 attacks. The collective wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria have cost more than $1.5 trillion, according to a Defense Department report.Sep 10, 2018. ” The $1.5 trillion is a hard cost with the long term cost much higher with military and civilian injuries. If we invested $1.5 trillion in border security, health care and education we would be better off.

We need to be more political with bad regimes by applying pressure through financial and UN strategies vs military or covert actions.  This is a much better approach.
“As Ronald Reagan emphasized, America is a shining city upon a hill whose beacon light guides freedom-loving people everywhere.” We need to be a country to emulate versus one that wields a hammer. We need to save the military and convert activities to what is truly critical to our defense.

Taxes and Ocasio-Cortez

Progressives like Alexandria Ocasio- Cortez propose tax rates for the wealthy as high as 70%. This would pay for the “green new deal”. However this plan would be ineffective along with growing America’s debt even more. The wealthy would only manipulate gains and losses to hide their wealth through high paid tax accountants and lawyers. We support Alexandria’s desire to make healthcare and education affordable and accessible to all but not this approach. There are other proposals that could be made to reach these goals without taking 70% of any American’s income. One idea to combat the high tax rates for the top earners in the United States is a tax incentive program where the more more jobs they create and the higher healthcare contributions they offer to their employees, the lower their taxes will be . It could be the same for corporations but with additional tax incentives for sourcing products from the US. The more product a business purchases that is manufactured in the US, the lower their tax rate. For example if Walmart product purchases were 79% imports they would be in one tax tier and a lower one if it were 50%. This would help create jobs in the USA.

MLK’s Birthday

Dr. King was a classy man, agent of change and a person whom I respected deeply. Our country is missing leaders such as this whose passion and love for people united people for great causes versus dividing. Dr King would have been 90 today and is sorely missed but is in a much better place. Our goal with the new party is also to unite Americans and promote policies that benefits all promoting equality.

Unproductive political energy

If your social media feeds are anything like mine you probably are bombarded with political memes that propagate slamming the political opponent or party and spreading misinformation through half truths. Our politicians when they are campaigning spend all of their time as well not by defining what policies and strategies they are for rather they smear their opponents. They do this to hide the fact that they have nothing different that they bring to offer. The Main Street USA movement is different and will offer specific approaches to the main areas of concern. Our platform is taking thoughts and feedback from our readers. Join and follow us and provide comments for what ideas or thoughts you have and we may incorporate them.

The definition of insanity

According to the quote commonly attributed to Albert Einstein; Insanity – doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. The two party dominated system meets the criteria of insanity. We flip flop parties every election cycle and hope for change which we do not achieve. Both parties have become polarized to the left and right but the more voters identify as independent than as democrats or republicans. That is because most of Americans are moderate and care more about things that impact the quality of our day to day lives and the future for our children. This is the first post on the new blog site mainstreetuseparty.net with the goal being to create a grass roots movement for a new party for the majority in middle america.
