In the United States today, there is one form of discrimination that isn’t being talked about in the mainstream that is greatly affecting society: this is ageism. Companies often cut individuals that hit their peak due to their age and earnings to then replace them with younger employees even though they are still capable of completing the work and in many cases are the most qualified. The displaced workers are then turned away by other companies due to their age. The displacement of these Americans effects their mental and emotion health along with negatively impacting their dignity and quality of life. Existing laws need to be enforced and new laws added to prevent this from happening. Ageism affects all races, genders, and people groups.
